SUMMARY:Leadership HEB Class Project Poverty Simulation Event
DESCRIPTION:The Poverty Simulation is a chance for people to spend a few minutes walking in the shoes of a low-income family. \n\nHow it works: The simulation is conducted in a large room and intended to represent a month in the life of a family living in poverty. At the site\, you will receive an identity and family profile. Your "home\," and the "homes" of other participants\, are chairs in the center of the room. Using your family profile\, you will work to get the services you need -- banks\, schools\, grocery stores -- at tables that line the perimeter of the room. Along the way\, you will experience many of the same challenges that real low-income families may encounter.\n\n\n\nAfterward\, you and the other participants will gather for a debriefing to share your insights. The Poverty Simulation Event is a very special kind of awakening\, giving you a unique insight into the many challenges facing poor families.\n\n\n\nWhat others have said:\n\n"Simulation gives teachers a snapshot of poverty."\n\n"Poverty Simulation a learning experience that will last a lifetime."\n\n"Poverty for a day means a lesson for life." (audio clip)\n\nLearn more at povertysimulation.net or on the Facebook page.\n\n\n\nThe Poverty Simulation is FREE but registration is limited to the first 100 people.\n\n\n\nSponsored by the HEB Chamber Leadership HEB program\, 6 Stones Mission Network\, Minuteman Press\, NTX Sportswear\, The Clubhouse for Special Needs and TXU Energy.
